Anaphora: Repeated forms and configurations have been employed in art from ancient times. We see this in art inspired by ancient architectural patterns all the way up to the development of serialization in mid-20th Century Op and Pop Art. Repetition of patterns creates rhythms and fosters new ways of seeing or interpreting form. Upstream Gallery encourages photographers to submit work exploring this idea. The exhibition will open on Thursday, February 6th 2025 at our gallery in Hastings-on-Hudson NY.

Guest Juror: Karintha Lowe, PhD
Karintha Lowe is the Mellon Fellow in the Public Humanities at the Hudson River Museum (HRM) in Yonkers, New York. At HRM, she curates exhibitions and public programs for the Community & Partnership Gallery. Previously, she worked at the New York Historical Society and the Museum of Chinese in America, where she developed public programming and exhibitions on Asian American multimedia art. An interdisciplinary scholar and curator, Lowe also holds a PhD in American Studies from Harvard University. Her co-authored essay, "Urban Albums, Village Forms: Chinese Family Photographs and the Cold War," was recently published in Cold War Camera (Duke University Press). Alongside her curatorial practice, she currently serves as visiting faculty at Sarah Lawrence College, where she teaches courses on museum studies and Asian American art history.

Eligible Work: Artists from around the U.S. are invited to submit photographs in any technique. All work must be photographically based.
Specifications: All work must be suitably framed. Maximum framed size may not exceed 40 x 60 inches. Accepted pieces must be wired for hanging. The gallery reserves the right to reject poorly presented pieces.
