Soho Photo GallerySoho Photo Gallery is pleased to announce its 29th National Competition. The gallery, located in lower Manhattan, is New York City’s longest running co-operative photography gallery. All photo-based works are eligible, with no limitation as to subject matter or technique, except A.I. generated works, which are not accepted.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION The juror, Elizabeth Ellenwood will choose approximately 40 photographs for the exhibition. Cash prizes for first, second and third place winners will be awarded and up to four honorable mentions will be given as well. The photographers chosen, as well as the award winners, will be notified by email on or about May 15, 2023. The juror’s selections will also be posted on the Soho Photo website.
JUROR Lyle Rexer is an internationally recognized critic, writer, and curator. Educated at Columbia University and Merton College, Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, he is the author of many books on art and photography, including The Critical Eye: Fifteen Pictures to Understand Photography (2019). In addition, he has published hundreds of catalogue essays and articles on art, architecture, and photography appearing in The New York Times, Harper’s, Art in America, and many others. He teaches in both the graduate and undergraduate programs at the School of Visual Arts.
Prizes The awards include cash prizes from Soho Photo Gallery for 1st ($400) and 2nd ($200) place. Third place and up to four honorable mentions will receive prizes from our sponsor, Archival Methods, Inc.
