PhotoLucidaCritical Mass is an annual online program designed to foster meaningful connections within the photography world. Open to photographers at all levels and from anywhere across the globe, participants submit a portfolio of 10 images. After an initial pre-screening process, 200 finalists are selected to have their work reviewed and voted on by more than 150 distinguished international photography professionals. From this group, the TOP 50 are chosen, and a range of prestigious awards is presented.
Critical Mass offers an unparalleled opportunity to get your work in front of influential museum curators, gallerists, publishers, editors, educators, artists, and media producers. It’s visibility that counts—this program gets your images seen by the right people.
Each year, the jurors—who are actively searching for new talent—help generate real career momentum. We regularly hear from curators who offer exhibitions, editors who spotlight photographers in publications, and museum professionals who acquire new work. Critical Mass sparks career-changing opportunities. Ready to get your work noticed? This is the place to do it.
*Please Note: Photolucida will not accept AI-generated imagery in the 2025 Critical Mass call for entries. Our goal is to continue fostering thoughtful dialogue around the evolving relationship between AI, creativity, and photo-based work—through ongoing conversations with curators, gallerists, collectors, thought leaders, and, most importantly, you—our vibrant community of passionate photographers.
