Each iteration of this esteemed competition sees photographers, both amateur and professional, submitting their finest work in hopes of earning the prestigious title of Astronomy Photographer of the Year. The overall winner of the Adult competition receives £10,000 and the title of Astronomy Photographer of the Year. Category winners in the Adult competition receive £1,500, runners-up get £500, and highly commended entries receive £250. The Young competition offers similar cash prizes for the winner, runner-up, and highly commended entries. Two Special Prizes, the Sir Patrick Moore Prize for Best Newcomer and the Annie Maunder Prize for Image Innovation, come with £750 each. Additionally, all winners have their images displayed at the National Maritime Museum, receive a year’s subscription to BBC Sky at Night magazine, and a copy of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year publication.
