Praxis Photo Arts CenterThe term composition means ‘putting together’ or the act of combining parts or elements to form a whole - often adhering to compositional principles that make a work of photographic art more appealing or intriguing to viewers. These principles include the development of rhythm, movement, contrast, balance, unity, proximity, and continuity to create expressive and compelling compositions – while emphasizing different visual concepts.
Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic art that explores the art of composition—how elements are arranged to create compelling and expressive imagery. All genres, capture types, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission.
Juror: Alan Sheflan
Alan Shefland is a former Hollywood film editor who transitioned from editing award-winning TV series and films to a dedicated career in photography. Over his 35-year career in film, billions of frames passed before his eyes, providing him with a deep visual education that naturally informed his photographic work. Seeking to refine his technical skills and explore various photographic styles, Alan pursued formal studies in the photographic arts.
Since then, his work has been widely exhibited, and his passion for photography continues to grow. For over a decade, Alan has shared his expertise as a photography instructor, embracing both teaching and lifelong learning. He believes in the power of photography as a means of visual expression, encouraging others with his motto: ‘Taking photos enables us to make a visual statement, so go say something visually!’
