DE SARTHE GalleryDE SARTHE is pleased to announce an Open Call for Artists for the upcoming 2024 edition of deSAR, the gallery’s annual summer residency in Hong Kong.
In a city known for its high rent and small spaces, deSAR (inaugurated in 2017) offers its gallery space in the Southside art district Wong Chuk Hang to a Hong Kong artist to freely create an exhibition. Spanning over two months, the artist may fully utilize the space as their studio, which will stay open to the public during normal gallery hours.
The residency actively encourages audiences to witness the creative process and engage in dialogue with the artist, challenging the conventional dynamics between artists and galleries while altering the nature of a gallery space and subverting the notion of privacy within creation. Following the residency, the artist will present their creations in a short exhibition to open at the end of summer.
How to apply: Applicants are required to be based in Hong Kong and must submit the following documents electronically (in English) to hongkong@desarthe.com - CV - Portfolio or Artist Website - Detailed residency exhibition proposal For full information or questions regarding the residency, the application process, personal specifications, and to apply, please send inquiries to hongkong@desarthe.com.
